How to Obtain Street Camera Footage

For video evidence, check with 511 Wisconsin & State Traffic Operations Center, which provide live view traffic from 388 cameras throughout Wisconsin. Video evidence is saved for at least 72 hours. Following an auto accident or traffic stop, call 414-227-2166 or e mail statewide.toc@dot.wi.gov to ask if video evidence is available for your situation. Go to 511wi.gov for current video footage from the 388 cameras.

If the incident occurred on a municipal road, check with the local police department to determine if any municipal intersection cameras have applicable video evidence. You can also check with businesses in the vicinity of the accident. Look for cameras on the outside of buildings. Accidents are often videoed by the closed circuit system of the business.
